For a while now Tonkah and I have been discussing the idea of building a community around people instead of games. We've noticed a trend where we will play a game with friends, and make new ones. Eventually we (or they) will leave and start playing a new game. Often we will launch a new forum site and gather up everyone who is playing this new game, meet yet new people and the cycle repeats. We are tired of making new forums and sites... but even more importantly we are tired of losing track of friends.
To that end we've decided this time to build a community site that spans all the games our friends are playing... and have a place we can all keep in touch. We are going back to our "roots" so to speak and building the community around our oldest and closest group of friends, the guild of "Defiant".
Defiant is guild of friends and family who started in WoW. A lot of those friends and family (Tonkah and I included) have played together in many other games. We will be welcoming them to join this site, and a lot of new faces (hopefully) will be showing up over the next few weeks. Last but not least, we are re-branding the site as the Defiant Guild. We recognize that as a "community" of gamers and friends you may end up playing other games and be in other guilds if not enough of the community is there, but you'll always have a place you can belong.
Happy to have all of you, looking forward to hopefully a long time of gaming together.
Bethesda has announced the pricing plans for Elder Scrolls Online starting at $59.99 ($79.99 for the fancy edition).
If you preorder, you get a bunch of perks, including early-access (PC/Mac only), which will be good for reserving that perfect name you always wanted. Preorders are available now for all consoles.
To drive the message home, they released a new cinematic trailer that introduces some of the plot twists you can expect to learn about from within the game. (I sure wish someone would make a full-length movie that is as awesome as this trailer)
Will ESO be the next big thing? Or will it just be white noise? Discuss.
One of the most impressive stats is that more than 100,000,000 (One hundred million) people have played WoW to date. That's impressive by anyone's standards (except for the unimpressible zhanglao, who mentioned that League of Legends currently sees 12 million players daily). Anyways... check it out:
Sony announced a new premium subscription available to gamers that grants preferred status along with many other benefits for $14.99/mo. The interesting thing about this subscription is that the preferred status applies to all their major titles:
Our server now supports an addon framework called Oxide.
The following addons are supported, with more along the way:
If you have a request for a specific addon, reply to this thread.
Some addons we are looking at (would have implemented, but they aren't updated yet):
In a stroke of took-way-too-long-to-figure-this-out-genius, Blizzard is announcing that the next expansion "Digital Deluxe" package will include an upgrade to 90 for one of your characters. Not only that, but is also considering the possibility of letting you pay to boost any character at any time (Cant we say free to play?)
Anyways, it's always interesting to see what they have in store for the game!
Garry published a new post that addresses a handful of the issues that have been on our minds regarding the game lately.
Two of the topics which are more interesting to us are: Removing zombies, and improving the ability to defend a base while offline.
The firefall developers have finally broken a relatively silent streak on specifics of upcoming features. In this twitch.tv special, they discussed what's coming in the next patch (this January) as well as the 2014 plan for the game. Most of what they said rekindled the hope I had for the game. Not sure if this is a result of Mark Kern's departure, but I hope they stay in this direction.
TL;DR: Fairly comprehensive revamps of crafting and progression. Repair pools are still there, but they've made them a lot more tolerable. 2014 will bring us open-world PvP, army bases and combat vehicles.
